The House on Main Street

Cliff Stone ventures to Cape Cod on a cold December day to visit an old Victorian house where he and his family had happy times before his divorce. He finds two women, Bobbie and Ashley, there. He enters the house under false pretenses, only to end up severely injured and shackled to a bedpost. His captivity is complicated by two facts: first, he believes the house is haunted by a ghost named Missy, who has been waiting since 1850 for her husband to return from sea; and second, he is falling in love with Ashley. A Cliff-Ashley-Bobbie triangle emerges. In a swirl of failed escape attempts, criminal shenanigans, and unlikely romances, the fates of Cliff, Ashley, Bobbie and the ghost Missy are sealed at midnight in the turbulent waters off the coast of Monomoy Island.

Author's Note: I came to the art community and sleepy fishing village of Chatham, Massachusetts many years ago. My writing career began there. With the publication of my first book, Vera’s Story: Escape to Freedom, the owner of the Yellow Umbrella Bookstore set me up on the sidewalk outside his shop to sell copies to passers-by. Although his advice was that most tourists were not interested in escape from Nazi and Soviet occupation, we sold 30 copies that day. His advice was to write a more whimsical story for the summer beach crowd. This book is the result of that effort.
